Microsilica Considerations for High-Strength and High-Rise Concrete

High-rise concrete may require high compressive strength, pumpability over long distances and stable workability during placement. Microsilica can improve particle packing and later-age matrix density, which makes it useful in performance-oriented binder systems.

Its fine particles increase water demand and can change rheology. The mixture therefore needs an appropriate high-range water reducer, controlled aggregate grading and trial pumping where the delivery distance is demanding. Designers should also review autogenous shrinkage, heat development and curing.

Before ordering

  • Confirm the project standard and target strength age
  • Run compatibility trials with the selected cement and admixture
  • Specify densified or undensified form for plant handling
  • Check moisture, LOI and oversize limits
  • Plan enclosed transfer and dust control
