Using Microsilica in Precast Concrete Production

Precast production values repeatability, early handling strength and consistent surface finish. Microsilica can support dense, cohesive mixtures and high strength, but its fine particle size makes dosing and dispersion important.

Plants should establish a controlled charging sequence so the powder does not form balls or remain on mixer surfaces. Moisture variation, admixture dosage and aggregate condition should be tracked. For self-consolidating mixtures, viscosity and air content need particular attention.

Plant trial checklist

  • Mixing time and charging sequence
  • Early strength at demolding
  • Slump flow, air and surface finish
  • Curing temperature and moisture
  • Color consistency between batches

The final addition rate is a mix-design decision. Use Hyborton’s typical grade table to define the material inquiry.
